Laboratory of Entomology
The main research trends – investigations into fauna, distribution and ecology of Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Trichoptera of Lithuania and the trophic relationships of separate insect groups.
Twenty new insect species have been described. Through the analysis of the interecosystematic relationships of host-parasitoid populations in different landscape a new trend of research was developed, that give a chance to clearly understand the functioning of natural systems. the current research are: the changes of structure of ecosystems in different territories, the possibilities of identification of most valuable territories in Lithuania on the ground of insects populations structure and indicatory species. The phenological changes in different trophic link are investigated.
An Entomological laboratory was organized in 1983, but entomological investigations have been carrying on since the 1953 in former Sector of Invertebrates.
